Victory Lager

Victory Lager

61 Blade Chainsaw

Victory Lager is a German Helles style lager crafted by the Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. In 2004 it was the Grand Champion of the Dortmunder/Helles category of the United States Beer Tasting Championship. It is brewed with Two-Row German Malts and Whole Flower German Hops for an alcohol content of 4.8% ABV.

The bottle has a bold “V” for Victory logo and the German trained brewers of the Victory Brewing Company are a proud bunch that embrace the freedom of creativity in the American brewing landscape.

Onto The Method

7.0/10 - The Classic

1.0 - Appearance – A very clear pale straw with some interesting cloudiness and a full foamy white head that vanishes into the thin theoretical multidimensional universe.

1.5 - Aroma – Fragrances suggests a macro-american lager approach, but a little deeper are some quality grains and an absence of that skunky aroma expected in this style.

1.5 - Taste – At first impressions, I'm quickly recalled of the American macrobrewed lager, but the interesting and flavorful aftertaste keeps me interested. Deeper into the session I notice an improved experience and a lack of the usual adjuncts that diminishes the quality of this style.

1.5 - Palate – Silky smooth palate with a nice well rounded body that is easy to pound.

1.5 - Overall – Victory Lager starts off a with an uncomfortably familiarity to the large macro brews, but this one omits the negative characteristics too common in the style including impure ingredients and fillers, making it an enjoyable representation of a regular lager. The experience improves after opening the mind.

Victory Lager 5.0/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze - The 4.8% alcohol content of this beer barely has a chance, which is surprising considering its respectively light body.

5.0/10 Blades - The Knife – digestibility - Like the hammer, the knife struggles to cut through the light ingredients to make any real substantial impressions on the flesh.

7.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - The spiders take their time arriving and when they get there, there's very little of that euphoric high, but there is a nice subtle lift that remains for the remainder of the night.

7.0/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - It is easy to control and handle this weak motor.

The Chainsaw

30.0/50 Blades - The Buzz – Victory Lager is a surprisingly tasteful beer that is usually uncharacteristic in this style. It starts off with that questionable familiarity, but the quality grains and ingredients make for an enjoyable drinking session. The buzz comes on slowly but is hardly missed while pounding these good brews, and when the buzz does finally arrive, it is a weak and simple lift. It's weak hammer doesn't have a chance with this lazy knife. Still, a good beer is always nice to devour during the powerful howling of a mountain thunderstorm.
