Saranac Pale Ale65 Blade ChainsawSaranac Pale Ale is a creation of the Matt family of brewers in the Adirondacks in Upstate New York. It is a Pale Ale brewed with Crystal English Pale Ale Malts and Cascade and East Kento Hops for an IBU of 19 an alcohol content of 5.5% ABV and 13.50 original gravity.
Saranac is the Iroquois word for Cluster of Stars, and the Matt Brewing company borrows its definition to reflect its philosophy of living in harmony with its surroundings and utilizing the fresh Adirondacks waters and grains grown in its unspoiled soil.
This was one of my first experimentations with craft brews and I remember being impressed by it after tasting its even more enticing relative, Saranac India Pale Ale. Onto The Method5.0/10 - The Classic1.5 - Appearance – Rich bronze color with light carbonation, little head retention and minimal lacing. 1.0 - Aroma – A subtle and sweet malt fragrance. 1.0 - Taste – A mildly bitter and well balanced malt and hop formula. 0.5 - Palate – A medium body with some syrupy caramel tones and a greasy disposition. 1.0 - Overall – I remember this being so much better, but it still continues to be nice and easily drinkable as the first brew was gone in mere moments. 
6.0/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze - An average 5.5% abv over a medium body.
6.0/10 Blades - The Knife – digestibility - The booze shows through the drink’s weight well enough, but is challenged by its oily character. 7.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - A moderate critter that shows up during the end of the second bottle and lingers for the rest of the night. 6.0/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - After the third I fought the urge to drunk-dial a friend and drunk-email another, but all was fine in the end. The Chainsaw35.0/50 Blades - The Buzz – Saranac Pale Ale's buzz was nice and strong and it continued to drink quite nicely throughout the evening. It’s a pretty sweet and stony buzz with some greasy overtones around its body. I wasn’t a big fan of the oiliness, but the buzz wasn’t bad at all.
