Barley Creek Rescue IPA

Rescue IPA from Barley Creek Brewing Company

83 Blade Chainsaw

Rescue IPA is an American India Pale Ale brewed by the Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville, Pennsylvania. According to their beer menu and website, it is made with Crystal and Biscuit Malts and hopped four separate times with pure Centennial and Cascade Hops for 60 International Bitterness Units, 5.8% ABV over an original gravity of 1060.

Rescue IPA is one of four of the brewery's year round bottled selections, and is cask conditioned and always on tap and freshly brewed. It is an excellent style of beer to have in their lineup and continues to be a favorite each time I visit the brewery.

Onto The Method

1.5 - Appearance – A buttery pour showcases some modest foam with ambitious rising carbonation over a caramel hued body.

2.0 - Aroma – Beautifully scented hop fragrances jump into the air and the spirit while blending softly with the delicate biscuit malt foundation.

2.0 - Taste – Full flavors with a nicely rich and bitter feel at the top of the tongue en-wraps the experience, while finishing with a clean and crisp edge that jumps again with a second round of hoppy bitterness at the back end.

1.5 - Palate – The well balanced hop acidity cuts through the mild and sweet malt character in this medium bodied orchestration.

1.5 - Overall – This is a well constructed, well planned out work of art that is genuinely delicious, enjoyable and highly drinkable.

Rescue IPA 7.0/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze -The alcohol starts out nicely at the high end of the moderate scale at 5.8% abv making it a nicely heavy and substantial too.

7.0/10 Blades - The Knife – digestibility - A surprisingly sharp edge cuts through the freshness and culture of the live yeast.

8.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - This delicious drink is so easy to pound that a nice rush begins to round the temples immediately after the first and into the second.

8.0/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - Rescue IPA is so enjoyable that it's easy to pound back a few, while the rush comes in nicely and inspires to continue the session through the end of the six pack.

The Chainsaw

44.5/50 Blades - The Buzz – Rescue IPA is a delicious beer that's cask conditioned and always served fresh. Since it is unpasteurized, any bottles taken home must also be drunk within its freshness period of under three months, so every healthy serving is always alive with freshness and character. The hoppyness is bitter but not overpowering making it easy for anyone to try their hands at a solid but friendly IPA. Soon they will discover how easy it is to drink and how inspiring it is to pound, which results in a quick rush to the temples and an inclination to continue the session and chainsaw the night!
