Paulaner Salvator

Paulaner Salvator Double Bock

70 Blade Chainsaw

Search for your best beers!

Paulaner Salvator is a doppelbock style bottom fermenting lager from the German Paulaner brewery in Munich, established sometime in the early 1600’s.

According to the official website, which takes some daring navigation to get past its German language, claims that the recipe is a patent protected formula with close representation of the originator’s 1773 formula by their most famous Paulaner Monk Brother Barnabas.

We do know that it has a killer 7.9% ABV alcohol content, and the six pack illustrates a jovial monk and aristocrat hovering over the proud creation.

Onto The Method

6.0/10 - The Classic

1.5 - Appearance – Pours a deep and smooth bronze with little carbonation and a meaty bread head that dissipates after a minute.

1.5 - Aroma – Deep sweet toffee and malt aromas with a touch of coffee and a kick of alcohol.

1.0 - Taste – Strong alcohol flavor with a sharp bitter conclusion. I like the boozy bite, but the sweetness accumulates throughout the session.

1.0 - Palate – A medium to light representation of the double bock style, which is more to my liking than the heavier brands.

1.0 - Overall – Overall, it has a rough complex flavor with a kick-ass highly alcoholic bite, I like it! But the sweetness does build over time.

Paulaner Salvator 8.5/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze - This hammer starts off with a naturally heavy 7.9% abv that works super-well with its respectively thinner body.

9.0/10 Blades - The Knife – digestibility - With the high alcohol content cutting right through its ingredients, the knife is sweetly sharp making this beer almost exclusively alcohol!

7.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - Well paced spiders arrive at the conclusion of the second for a full and warm head and some tingly sensations towards the prefrontal cortex section of the brain.

5.5/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - The alcohol in this brew has a way of sending you for a loop, and it’s a good idea to switch over to a lower abv brew to continue the night. At 3 beers, you can keep your head together just fine, but finishing the third brew gives a clear indication that your evening will be finished upon commencement of the fourth.

The Chainsaw

34.0/50 Blades - The Buzz – Paulaner Salvator is a highly alcoholic brew with a strong hammer and a sharp knife that cuts through its respectively thinner body. The buzz is an enjoyably warm and tingly experience that, with a sensitive motor, could easily get ugly if you push it. Besides, the sticky sweet characteristics build up in your palate rather quickly making it a good idea to cut it short and switch over to another brew after the third. This way, you can enjoy the good buzz the very next night!
