Magic Hat Lucky Kat

Magic Hat Lucky Kat

80 Blade Chainsaw

Magic Hat Lucky Kat is brought to you by the Magic Hat Brewing Company in South Burlington, Vermont. This Kat is brewed with an interesting combination of Pale, Munich and Crystal Malts as well as Amarillo and Crystal Hops and English Ale Yeast for an alcohol content of 5.8% ABV, 58 International Bitterness Units and a gravity of 14.2 Plato.

Lucky Kat has some identity issues with its classification, with the web site calling it Irresistible Pale Ale, Imperial Pale Ale, or IPA, but it also assures us that only he knows and will also deliver a big hoppy kiss upon petting him.

Magic Hat is one of those brewers that beer geeks seem to be embarrassed to like, as it doesn't appear mature or serious, but I've always enjoyed Magic Hat beer. They're image is fun, their graphics are playful, their slogans and gimmicks are exciting, and their beer is amazingly delicious in a very complex and cheery way. Magic Hat Lucky Kat is no exception.

Onto The Method

8.5/10 Blades - The Classic

1.5 - Appearance – Dark opaque and cloudy brown/amber with a full body and head that looks alive with yeast, culture and excitement.

1.5 - Aroma – Interesting earthy and floral tones with unusual but identifiable IPA fragrances.

2.0 - Taste – That earthy and complex composition awakes inspiration and the malt blend is very nicely balanced with an exciting hop selection. The bitter tones are nicely smoothed over a gorgeous floral flavor.

1.5 - Palate – A medium body with sharp carbonation and an easy drink. The balance lends itself appropriately to sipping or pounding.

2.0 - Overall – A highly flavorful and unique version of the style that is attractive, fragrant, earthy and fully enjoyable.

Magic Hat Lucky Kat 7.0/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze -A much stronger and more robust alcoholic feel than the medium 5.8% ABV suggests. A strong brew indeed.

8.0/10 Blades- The Knife – digestibility - A great blend of ingredients mixed in a medium body with full carbonation that is easy to consume and process, the knife is sharp yet silent.

8.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - Spiders easily rise unnoticed but are evident during the middle of the second and continue the rise to a full headed rush.

6.5/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - This motor does get a little slothy at the third, but not overly unruly.

The Chainsaw

42.0/50 Blades - the buzz – Magic Hat Lucky Kat is a fun beer to drink by the makers of fun to drink beer. The buzz is flowy and smooth with a touch of slothy exhilaration. This Magic Hat beer is flavorful, easy to drink and hits all the right spots in the soul. Depending on your mood, it is perfectly appropriate for relaxing or for riding the lightning into the eye of the storm.
