Dortmunder Actien Brauerei DAB Imported Lager
45 Blade Chainsaw
Search for your best beers! Dortmunder Actien Brauerei is a brewery in Dortmund, Germany that produces DAB Dortmunder Lager and exports it worldwide. DAB is a Dortmunder export lager in which the bottle claims pure ingredients including barley malt, hops and water for an alcohol content of 5.0% ABV and I would estimate in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 IBUs on the bitterness scale. It was originally called the Herberz & Co Brewery in 1868 until it expanded and went public in 1871. After difficulties during the first and second World Wars and the near complete destruction of Dortmund, the brewery was completely rebuilt in 1949. Multiple high cost acquisitions during the 1970's and some shady corporate dealings during the 1990's led the company into a downward economic spiral that continues to this day. Unfortunately, DAB beer may be its biggest victim.
Onto The Method
5.0/10 Blades - The Classic
1.0 - Appearance – Unusually rich looking pale straw with ambitious carbonation and thick, dissipating white head.
1.0 - Aroma – Sharp Pilsner hop fragrances over a natural and bready malt base.
1.0 - Taste – Tame and subdued flavors hinting at some hop characters popping on the tongue over a grass-like malt base.
1.0 - Palate – Popping carbonation on the tongue with an oily nature at the edges.
1.0 - Overall – While tame and unexciting, it would be easy to confuse this with bad beer, as they share similar aromas and flavors, but this brew feels natural with clean ingredients and quality construction, it's just uninspiring.
5.0/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze -The moderately light 5.0% ABV stays right in the middle of mediocrity and unexcitement. It's there and it is lazy.
6.0/10 Blades- The Knife – digestibility - The body and alcohol are in balance and it is pretty easy for the blade to cut through the flesh, as vapors begin to leave the top of my head and the rounds of my eyes.
5.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - Spiders take a long and slow uninspiring rise that take a few beers, around three or more, and never quite make the hike up to bliss.
4.0/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - While it was easy to conclude the six-pack with control and dignity, hiccups kicked in at the end of the fifth and start of the sixth.... hiccups!
The Chainsaw
25.0/50 Blades - the buzz – The lift takes a long time to come on, and in the meantime alcoholic vapors escaped through the bottom of my eyes. The buzz felt full and fizzy, and the hiccups completely ruined any good sensations this beer could provide. Dortmunder Actien Brauerei may be the beer that makes me give up on imported lagers. Instead of a good buzz, I was left with deep resentment in my heart.

After Drinking Dortmunder Actien Brauerei DAB, try another World Lager
