Belhaven Scottish Ale
39 Blade Chainsaw
Search for your best beers! Belhaven Scottish Ale is a Belhaven Brewery elixir that they have been brewing longer than any of their other beers. It has an alcohol content of 5.2% ABV. The bottle appears strong and substantial, as does the ridiculously expensive price compared with other quality imports – this better be fantastic!
Onto The Method
6.0/10 - The Classic 2.0 - Appearance – Handsome deep copper with great carbonation, meaty head and healthy retention. 1.5 - Aroma – Sweet caramel malts with some roasted nuttiness. 1.0 - Taste – Sweet caramel malts with minimal hop bite and a balance leaning toward its blunted malt disposition 0.5 - Palate – A thick and bready feel with a heavy weight. 1.0 - Overall – I like the flavor and appearance, but would appreciate a partial monetary refund.
5.0/10 Blades - The Hammer – the booze - With an alcohol content of 5.2% abv, the hammer is of medium build but is muted and lost within its body and temperament.
4.0/10 Blades - The Knife – digestibility - The knife has little chance against the thick and bready body and the alcohol is barely noticeable.
2.0/10 Blades - The Spider – the lift - There’s really very little there in terms of a lift or even a mild rush. There’s some sweetness that kind of feels like something, but otherwise the spiders never arrive.
4.0/10 Blades - The Motor –can you handle it? - Thick and heavy motor with little push – leaving me with little inclination to move forward with the six-pack and the experimentation ended at the end of the fourth, scoring at all only because my head was still there.
The Chainsaw
18.0/50 Blades - The Buzz – There’s no buzz in Belhaven Scottish Ale, at all! If it is a good classic you want, you could do better elsewhere, though not bad it is not worth the monetary sacrifice. It has a great presentation and possibly some interesting history, but if I’m going to pay premium for it I want it presented in a DVD with James Earl Jones standing next to me narrating the moving illustrations. Otherwise: weak hammer, dull knife, zero spiders and a slow surrendering motor. Finally, the money I paid for this genuine imposter would have killed my buzz if it was able to provide one.
